Tips--
The SP1 to OE6 gives new options: A newsgroup message that
downloads to your hard drive can be deleted. Good thing for Spam and post-dated
messages. Highlight the message, then Edit>Delete. Or Right click the toolbar
and select customize, then add the big Red X to your toolbar. Also you can
select to have all messages received to be viewed in plain text.
Tools>Options>Read, and tick view all messages in plain text.
We download a lot of messages to our hard drives, so a good
clean-up helps to keep OE running smooth......
It's best to do this with OE in the "Work Offline"
Mode . File>Work Offline.
Highlight this newsgroup in the left pane, then right click
and select Properties>Local
Files>Remove Messages. This will leave all message headers, but available
message bodies will have to be downloaded again. A great way to lighten the
load on OE. Do this for other groups you may belong, or view. Don't forget, once
finished, go back and uncheck "Work Offline". :-) Another way is to
reset the newsgroup: It cleans up OE from all those old message bodies and
headers.
In the left pane, right click the
newsgroup>Properties>Local File>RESET. Ok to the question,...Now wait
for all the messages headers to disappear. This may take a while (seems like it
stops responding), but that's because there are so many,...wait. When they are
gone, select Compact, and wait. then ok out. Leave the group then return.
Messages will download again. Mark all as read, then right click the group again
and select Catch Up,...Wait until it's done. That's it. Some like to use Delete,
but I hate all those re:'s to post headers that I can't see<g>.
As scripts become more widely used, they are also more
processor intensive, and sometime won't release. To Make them let go, put the
Preview button on the Toolbar. Right click the Toolbar and select Customize. In
the left pane, highlight Preview button and select Add, then close. Now, if a
post won't let go, highlight another post, click the Preview button, then click
it again, and you're out
